The Seed Library

In partnership with local nonprofit Garden Pool, the Scottsdale Seed Library is stocked with edible plant and herb seeds appropriate for Arizona growing conditions and seasons.

Library card holders are welcome to check out three seed packets per month. Seed availability is dependent on seasonal growing conditions. Specific seed availability is not guaranteed.


The seeds you get from the Seed Library are yours to keep and don’t need to be returned like other library materials. You can pay it forward by saving the seeds of your harvest for donation. Label your seeds clearly and place them in the donation box.

  • Can anyone use it?
    The Seed Library is for Scottsdale Public Library card holders to use.
  • How does it work?
    Library card holders can use their library card check out up to 3 seed packets to keep per month. Seed selection is based on seasonal growing conditions. Availability is not guaranteed.
  • Can I drop off seeds?
    If you wish to donate from your harvest, you may put seeds in a labeled envelope in the seed donation box for Garden Pool to pick up. For more information, see
  • When is it open?
    The Seed Library is open during regular library business hours.
  • Are we doing this at any other libraries?
    This is a pilot project at Mustang Library only.

    Garden Pool is a federally recognized 501(c)3 internationally operating public charity based in Mesa, Arizona. Their mission is: "to continue to innovate, create, educate, and support better ways to grow food". They are known for the design of the Garden Pool "self-sufficient food-system".
