Policy Statement:

The Scottsdale Public Library system provides reciprocal borrowing and lending collection-sharing services to improve and expand the resources available to patrons. By establishing reciprocal borrowing agreements with other libraries located in Maricopa County, the Scottsdale Public Library supplements its own resources and expands its ability to achieve its mission.

Regulations:

  1. Scottsdale Public Library is a member of MAX, a collection-sharing service for participating library systems in Maricopa County. MAX lending policies are established by the consortium of participating libraries.
  2. Borrowing: MAX is available to any patron in good standing (i.e., card is current and not blocked for fees).
  3. Number of Requests Available: A patron may have up to five (5) active MAX transactions at any one time. This includes requests that are pending as well as materials that the patron currently has borrowed through MAX.
  4. Circulation of MAX Materials: MAX materials from other participating libraries will be loaned for a three-week period with no renewals allowed.
  5. Borrowing Fees and Charges: All patrons borrowing materials through MAX are responsible for lost and/or damaged fees.
    1. There will be a fee of $20.00 per item that is lost or damaged.
    2. Assessment of lost fees are determined by the lending library’s circulation policies.
  6. Lending Materials to Other Libraries: Scottsdale Public Library materials are loaned to other MAX libraries for a period of three weeks--not including shipping time and not to exceed four weeks.
    1. There will be no charge to other MAX participating libraries to borrow materials from Scottsdale Public Library’s collection.
    2. No charges will be assessed for overdue items in keeping with Scottsdale Public Library’s Fine Free policy.
    3. If an item belonging to Scottsdale Public Library is lost or returned damaged, the borrowing library is responsible for any costs to repair or replace the item.
