Accessibility Services

The Scottsdale Public Library seeks to make its services, facilities and programs accessible to all patrons, including those who have disabilities.

This means that:

  1. Access to library facilities may include ADA parking spaces; automatic entrance doors that are wheelchair accessible; elevators for the multi-storied Civic Center Library; wheelchair-accessible restrooms, drinking fountains, braille signage and external and/or drive up book drops at all library facilities.
  2. Patrons may request reasonable accommodations when independent use of library resources and collections proves to be challenging. Reasonable accommodations may include staff assistance for locating or retrieving library materials, on-line catalog searching, or other hands-on library assistance.
  3. Wheelchairs are available at all libraries and a motorized cart is available at Civic Center Library. Assistive devices such as computer monitors with the ability to zoom and access to Microsoft Windows as well as magnifying glasses are available at all libraries. A print enlarging machine is available at Civic Center Library.
  4. Alternate access to information may include large print books by mail; reference services by fax or email; home delivery service; remote access to the Library catalog, website, and electronic resources.
  5. Sign language interpreters and assistive listening devices for library sponsored programs upon request. Please call 480-312-READ (7323) fourteen days in advance to make arrangements.
  6. The Library makes print materials available in alternative formats such as large type, audio recording and electronic formats.

 


  Assistance animals are permitted in the library in accordance with the Behavior and Training Standards for Service Animals guidelines.

Arizona Talking Book Library also provides books, magazines and other library resources for all Arizona residents whose visual or physical disabilities prevent the reading of conventional materials.


Large
Print

The library offers Large Print books in all of our libraries.

These easy-on-the-eye books are available for both adults and children. Choose from classics, bestsellers, westerns, mysteries, romances, and non-fiction. Look for them at each of our libraries. 


Home
Delivery

The library offers book delivery service to homebound patrons.

Any Scottsdale resident who meets the following criteria qualifies for the Home Delivery Service:

  1. Patrons are physically unable to visit the library.
  2. Patrons are confined to home for more than 60 days.
  3. Patrons live in a non-driving household.

Books
by Mail

The library offers postage-free mailing of large type books to vision impaired/homebound patrons.

Any Scottsdale resident who meets the following criteria qualifies for the Large Type Books By Mail program:

  1. Cannot use or read conventionally printed materials and are eligible to receive Free Matter for The Blind*.
  2. Live in a non-driving household.
